Top End of Summer Activities in Galveston

There are countless reasons to visit Galveston, Texas. The beaches are wonderful, and it is home to amazing history and a vibrant community. You can find a good time in Galveston regardless of when you visit, but especially during the late summer months when the weather is beautiful and the crowds are more casual. Here are a few things you need to try before the summer officially ends in Galveston.

Hit the Beach

A late summer visit to Galveston is absolutely perfect for that quiet beach time that you are looking for. Firstly, the crowds are exponentially smaller, so you have a greater feeling of seclusion and peace. But the weather is also the best that you will find throughout the whole year. It is cool enough that you do not have to jump in the water every 60 seconds to remain comfortable, and it is warm enough that you can be comfortable in anything you wear.

Do Some Fishing

We would be lying if we said there was a bad time to go out fishing around Galveston, but the late summer is as good as any time. You can find ample fishing opportunities, whether you are looking for saltwater fishing on the beach or in the boat, or freshwater in the swamps and rivers. Among the countless fish that are biting around this time, you can find redfish, flounder, and catfish.

Visit Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark

It does not get terribly cold in Galveston in the winter, but it certainly dips below optimal waterpark temperatures. This is sure to be one of the most amazing water parks you have ever seen, with dozens of heart pumping rides along with some great rides for sitting back and relaxing. This is your last chance to experience certain portions of the park that close for the winter.

Galveston Island Shrimp Festival

Attending this one of a kind festival on September 29th and 30th is one of the best ways to get a sense of the community here. The festival features some of the best seafood you have ever tasted, while competitions, games, music, and so much more make this a festival to remember. One of the main events is the Gumbo Stroll, in which you have four hours to sample all of the gumbo you can handle. You can find gumbo made by celebrated chefs as well as casual cooks.

Golfing

Galveston has the incredible advantage of enjoying weather that is suitable for golfing throughout the entire year. While this is true, there is absolutely no better time to take advantage of some of these beautiful courses than in September and October. One of the best examples of the courses here is Moody Gardens Golf Course, which features some of the most amazing natural wonders of Galveston, from the ocean to the wetlands.

While it is true you will have a great time in Galveston regardless of the date and the season, late summer is one of the best times to get down here. If you are looking for one last trip before the summer officially ends, make it a Galveston trip!
