Top Christmas Events in Galveston
Maybe Galveston is not home to the picturesque snow-capped mountains and pine trees that have become integral to many people’s idea of Christmas, but with one holiday visit here, the island is sure to become a new part of your holiday traditions. Is there anything wrong with spending Christmas in a place where you will find a beach and absolutely beautiful weather? We do not think so, and this is why Galveston is one of the best places to visit during the season! It is also the perfect place for your Christmas celebrations because of the festive events that the community puts together to celebrate every year. The following are a couple of the best of those celebrations.
City of Galveston Holiday Parade
This has become one of the best holiday traditions on the whole island. This year, the parade is taking over downtown, so visitors can enjoy this already festive environment that really comes to life during the parade. Floats, golf carts, cyclists, and music fill the streets. Grab a hot chocolate and find a good spot on the sidewalk and enjoy the incredible lights and festivities. This year, the parade is taking place on Saturday, December 16th. The festivities start at 6:30 pm!
2017 Festival of Lights
The festival of lights has come a long way from a simple celebration to a must-visit attraction every year. From December 15th to January 7th, the light celebration will be in full swing at Moody Gardens. The main event here is the incredible array of lights, with over one million bulbs lighting up this beautiful landscape. You can also enjoy amazing light and sound animation displays and live music. You can also enjoy the island’s only outdoor skating rink and the Texas-famous arctic slide. There is something here for everyone, making it the perfect place to celebrate the coming of Christmas!
Ice Land: Rainforest Holiday
This is a great attraction throughout the entire year, but the rainforest exhibit at Moody Gardens really comes to life during the holiday season. You can admire monkeys, exotic birds, and amazing plant life all with a special holiday twist. The exhibit features an incredible landscape carved from ice. Animals frolic around the amazing décor, while leaf-cutter ants carry Christmas lights and other decorative items. This is one of the most unique holiday attractions that you will ever have the opportunity to see and it is taking place every day until January 7th, so you have plenty of time to take advantage.
Galveston may not be the prototypical Christmas destination, but you would be hard pressed to find a place with more Christmas spirit than this beautiful island. You also get the added bonus of being able to hit the beach throughout the entire winter! Make Galveston the newest addition to your Christmas traditions!
