Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade Parade

Mardi Gras is a celebration not to be missed in the south. This Galveston event shuts down the towns streets and the people all come out to watch, and the celebration is infectious. The celebration is most known for its roots in New Orleans, but the party is very prevalent in Galveston. In Orleans fashion, all the people in Galveston come out for parades, festivals, and celebrations to ring in Mardi Gras. One of the most notable is the Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade Parade, where thousands flock with decorated umbrellas to celebrate the holiday.

The Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade Parade twirls through the streets of the Downtown Entertainment district on Friday February 17, 2017 at 8 pm for the 7th annual celebration. The Galveston event is free and offers families, friends, corporate groups, organizations, and individuals a chance to dance the night away in celebration of Mardi Gras. The Galveston County Daily News sponsors this event and allows groups to register and create their own umbrella group. These participants are eligible for judging in the contest and must register the name of the captain and the number of members. Judges will deem which group of umbrella-brandishing parade-goers did the best decorating. Come out for this amazing Galveston event!
