5 Things to Do in Galveston Next Week

The island city of Galveston, TX has plenty of activities and special events to offer its visitors throughout the year, but summer is an especially fun time to plan your getaway. If you happen to be in town August 7-13, be sure to check out the following local events.

Live Music at East Beach: DJ and Campfire Soul

From 3PM-6PM on Sunday, August 7, East Beach will be hosting its weekly live concert as part of the East Beach Summer Music Series. Concerts are always free and attendees get the chance to hear sounds from different musicians each week at the pavilion’s entertainment stage. This performance will feature a live DJ and Houston blues band Campfire Soul.

Island ETC Presents: “Catch Me If You Can”

This is the last week to see the hit Broadway musical “Catch Me If You Can” performed at Island ETC. The musical comedy is based on a true story about a con artist and the FBI agent who is constantly trying to track him down. On Thursday, August 11 the show starts at 8PM, and tickets are $30 for adults and $25 for students and senior citizens.

Phil Vassar Benefit Concert

Country music star Phil Vassar takes the stage at The Grand on Friday, August 12 at 7:30PM in a benefit concert that is fundraising for the Gulf Coast Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids’ Sake. Vassar is known for quite a few hit singles that include “Carlene,” “Just Another Day in Paradise,” and “Six-Pack Summer.” Tickets range from $29-$89.

Artist Boat Kayak Adventure

Venture out on the East End Lagoon for a guided tour with Artist Boat on Saturday, August 13 from 9AM-11AM to discover a striking area of natural wetlands. An easy and peaceful kayaking adventure near the Gulf of Mexico will allow you to see the second largest port in the nation and get up close and personal with herons in their own habitat. Prices are $25 per person.

Sand Castle Contest

Take the family and head down to Galveston Island State Park on Saturday, August 13 to participate in a sand castle contest from 2:30PM-3:30PM. Just $5 per adult will gain you entry into the park where you can show off your sand castle or sculpture building skills and compete to win one of the great prizes.
