5 Reasons to Visit the Moody Mansion

Galveston Island has a lot to offer its guests. There are amazing beaches, great attractions and wonderful tourist locations that are perfect for a vacation getaway. However, one of the best places to visit while in Galveston Island is the Moody Mansion. Take a step into Galveston’s storied past and enjoy this piece of local history.

1. Moody Family Tour

The Moody Family tour features six members of the Moody family telling stories about their ancestors. This amazing tour is unlike anything you have every seen. Guests will step into the shoes of the Moody Family and view the Mansion from their eyes. This tour is also translated into Spanish for those who need it.

2. Mary Moody Northen Tour

Mary’s tour, appropriate for children and adults, is narrated by an actress portraying the late Mary Moody Northen as if she were guiding you through her home. She will take you through the various parts of the home and give you the inside scoop of this amazing Mansion.

3.Guided Legacy Tour

Behind-the-scenes tours celebrate the enduring legacy of Mary Moody Northen. A knowledgeable docent guides guests through areas not normally open to the public, describing Mary Moody Northen’s vision for preserving her home and sharing her collections. These tours are conducted at 4 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tour size is limited, so reservations are highly recommended for larger groups.

4. Exhibits

Guests are welcome to tour the two main floors of Moody Mansion, furnished in a variety of styles ranging from French Rococo to Classical Revival. All furnishings are original to the Moody family. Mary’s Gallery is another great exhibit to view. Exhibits in these rooms change periodically in order to share Mary Moody Northen’s extensive and diverse collections. Mary’s Gallery currently features Native American artifacts, including jewelry, baskets, pottery, Kachina dolls and more. Another exhibit includes the garage area. Guests can see “Auto Fever,” an exhibit about the history of the automobile in the United States, Texas, and Galveston. On exhibit are three of the Moody’s automobiles including Mary Moody Northen’s personal car, a 1931 Studebaker.

5. Events
