Texas City Day Trip

If you’re looking to do something a little out of the ordinary during your vacation to Galveston, why not visit one of the busiest port cities on the Gulf Coast? Located just 20 minutes away, Texas City is easily accessible and a great place for a Texas City day trip. The city’s history dates back to the 1800s, and there are quite a few interesting attractions to explore.

Texas City Dike

The Texas City Dike is a levee that juts into the Galveston Bay. It has multiple boat ramps and picnic areas and almost a mile-long stretch of beaches with a fishing pier that measures in at five miles long. The waterfront landmark is a good spot to relax for the day and swim, go boating, or drop a line alongside the local fishermen.

Texas City Museum

The Texas City Museum is dedicated to highlighting the past, present, and future of the area. For a nominal fee, you will be able to explore different exhibits and artifacts, as well as the Galveston County Model Railroad Club. The railroad display is open on Saturdays and features train memorabilia, interactive sound modules, and more than 40 animated scenes. There is also a Children’s Discovery Place with several interactive learning experiences.

Bay Street Park

Bay Street Park is comprised of 100 acres, with half devoted to land and the other half a fresh water lagoon. It has numerous amenities and recreational activities, including lighted soccer fields, basketball courts, fishing piers, outdoor fitness stations, a horseshoe game area, sand volleyball court, granite walking trails, biking trails, birding areas, butterfly gardens, an amphitheater, and bronzed statue and sculpture works of art. The park is also home to a replica of one of the first airplanes ever used by the United States Army and an F100 Sabre Jet.

Texas City Prairie Preserve

The Texas City Prairie Preserve is a 2,300-acre protected environment of prairie and wetlands. Forty of those acres are freely open to the public, while the rest can be accessed through a tour. There are plenty of birds and wildlife to catch sight of in their natural habitat and boardwalks crossing through the marshes.
