Approximately an hour’s drive from Galveston, the small city of Sugar Land provides a variety of fun for all ages. From outdoor recreation to historical and educational experiences, you will find plenty to occupy your time on a special Sugar Land day trip.

Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land

Sugar Land’s satellite version of the Houston Museum of Natural Science is now housed in the structure that was originally constructed in 1939 as a prison. The museum’s major highlights include dinosaur displays and a large collection of fossils, a 2,000-gallon saltwater aquarium, and a digital dome theater displaying an array of awe-inspiring shows. There is also a microscope lab, art gallery, and different temporary exhibits that are rotated on a regular basis.

Sugar Land Town Square

Sugar Land Town Square is the heart of the city, with 32 acres of shopping and restaurant options and exciting events that take place year-round. You’ll find a good selection of fashion and accessory boutiques, specialty stores, and salon and spa amenities. There’s no doubt you will discover more than a few treasures and be able to take home the perfect souvenir. When it comes to dining, there are plenty of choices to satisfy your cravings.

Greatwood Golf Club

Sugar Land’s sunny climate makes it easy to enjoy a round of golf any time of year. The 18-hole course at Greatwood Golf Club has tee times open to the public with a layout that caters to all skill levels. The fairways are well maintained, and there are many bunkers and elevated green throughout for an additional challenge.

Sugar Land Memorial Park

Situated along the Brazos River, Sugar Land Memorial Park offers a peaceful setting where you can sit back and appreciate the beauty and nature that surrounds you. The 420-acre park has two picnic pavilions, jogging, hiking, and cycling trails, a children’s playground, a big open space for sports activities, and lake for fishing. There is also a canoe launch and the Justin P. Brindley Trail, which is a designated mountain biking trail with exciting terrain for intermediate and advanced riders to navigate through.
