Activities and Attractions for a Rainy Day in Galveston
The popular family-friendly adventure resort known as Moody Gardens has excellent indoor exhibits in the Aquarium Pyramid and the Rainforest Pyramid where visitors can experience marine life and rainforest animals from all over the world, including endangered species like Saki Monkeys, Giant Amazon River Otters, and Chinese Alligators. Moody Gardens is also home to the world’s first giant 4K screen with 3D functionality and a 6-Primary laser projection system on a 60 foot by 80 foot screen—the largest in all of Texas—where you can see shows like “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Close by Moody Gardens, the Lone Star Flight Museum showcases an impressive array of over forty restored aircraft from World War II, with most being in working condition.
Bishop’s Palace is another ideal destination for an indoor tour of an ornate and elaborate Victorian castle that has the distinction of being listed as one of the 100 most important buildings in America by the American Institute of Architects. Here, tourists can explore the home, which was built between from 1886 to 1892, and its fineries from around the world including stained-glass windows, rare woods, colored stones, intricate carvings, luxurious materials and furniture, bronze sculptures of dragons and other subjects, and even a fireplace lined with pure silver.
