Galveston’s Dickens on the Strand Festival

If you happen to be in town the weekend of December 2-4, do not be surprised to find yourself in the midst of a true 19th century holiday celebration. Dickens on the Strand is a Galveston, TX festival held annually, and designed to help you rediscover the joy of Christmas! For three days every year, carolers carol, jugglers juggle, and bagpipers bagpipe as they all stroll the streets in Victorian garb, adding to the joy and merriment that is the holiday season. Featuring a writing contest in which two youngsters will win a chance to ride in the Queens Parade, as well as a copy of Dickens’s most famous Christmas tale, “A Christmas Carol,” the finest in Old English entertainment, and the tastiest of holiday food and drink, Dickens on the Strand is a Galveston, TX celebration worth planning an entire vacation around!

You won’t want to miss this!

The weekend kicks off with Fezziwig Friday: a free party with entertainment, a free beer hall for those of age, raffles, and so much more! For those of you more interested in the historic district where Fezziwig Friday takes place, $25 will get you a spot in the St. Arnold’s architectural walking tour starting at 7 pm. For the next two days, you can shop at Victorian themed stalls, be entertained by costumed performers, and on Sunday, you can laugh at the antics of men and women racing beds through the streets dressed in Victorian night garb; you’re not going to find this much fun anywhere else but the Strand in Galveston!
